Moscow Riot

Those who took a stance on increase patrol and police action are fair in doing so as they have a right to feel safe as citizens. Russians should not feel unsafe as they walk the streets and all citizens of Russia, even immigrants must follow the laws of the country. The big question seems to be whether or not all groups will find a way live amongst each other but it appears that the gap is further increasing. Tension seems to be mounting even further as protests increase in size and damage. Vandalism has become an issue as shops have been broken into. Many arrests have also occurred thus adding to the issue. Migrants came to russia in search of work and were able to help Russia during their oil rush. They often pick up occupations that many other native russians wouldn't otherwise and are helpful in that aspect. If immigrants were able to follow within the laws of the country then I do not see a problem worsening. Until immigrants are able to so the problem will remain unresolved. Russia is not likely to change its laws and regulations to those who are native to the country.

  1. You raise the excellent question of what exactly is Russia's immigration problem here? Is the problem that immigrants are causing disruptions? Or is it rather that Russians want foreigners to do certain jobs but also do not want to accept them into their societies fully? It seems like the latter may be the actual problem, and that is a much different thing to need to fix than the former.

  2. It would be great for all Russians to be able to live together and live happily but it seems to be very difficult and almost impossible with the wrong doing going on. Rioting is causing much problems and is increasing greatly. I think it is a great question for some Russians to ask themselves, if we can get the best of both worlds? In this case, like Dr. Herron stated, "is it that Russians want foreigners to do certain jobs but also do not want to accept them into their societies fully?" It is almost as if the Russians are accepting that immigrants helped their country out by taking up jobs like construction, that most people do not want to do, but also want them to leave if they do anything more. I think that some Russians need to realize that you cant always get what you want and especially sometimes cannot get the best of both worlds.

  3. I agree with you that Russians have the right to feel safe as citizens in their own country. At the same time however I think there also needs to be focus on the reasons for rebellion among the immigrants. Perhaps they have their own needs as human beings that are not being addressed, which they also have the right to advocate for and should be heard since they are also contributing to the growth of Russia.
